Follow Fest : Nice To Meet YOU!

One of my absolute favorite bloggers, Melissa Maygrove, has put together this Blogfest to help writers connect with one another!  (How super awesome is that?)  Her blog is one of my favorites (she tweeted about my "Wrangry" post and I almost died)-- she tells things like it is and *always* gives awesome tips and advice.  If you don't follow her- you should probably head over and get connected!

Now, onto answering the questions Melissa put together for us:

Name: Azia DuPont
Fiction or nonfiction? Mostly fiction, but I've had a few essays published.
What genres do you write?  I told myself for a long time that I wanted to write some "strong" literature, something like Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates.  I realized that my interpretation of strong was more heavy/depressing/dark stories and frankly, writing those stories took so much from my soul that it was impossible to finish anything that I started!  My current WIP is NA- Chick Lit and I'm loving every minute I spend on it.  I think I've found my comfort zone.  I realized that writing can be fun/not just exhausting.  (Which, though it is often both.)  But, I actually laugh sometimes when I'm writing and I love that.
Are you published? I have had work appear in a few small presses.  Some essays and poems.  But, I am still an unpublished author.
Do you do anything in addition to writing?  My friend Sam and I have started the e-pub DirtyChai and its inaugural issue is set for publication in November!  Besides that, I'm a full-time Mom to two beautiful kids, Eva (5) and Abram (1).
Where can people connect with you?
There are a few ways:
Blog : Hit "Follow" over there on Google friend connect *OR* click the BlogLovin' button!
Lot's of options!
Twitter:  @aziadupont
Also- my email is azia (dot) dupont (at) gmail (dot) com -- I love email so feel free to send a message anytime!

Is there anything else you’d like us to know?
I'm looking for CP's and just other writers who are in the beginning stages of their writing journey on the road to (hopeful) publication.  I'm looking to network and find a community.  I'd love to help celebrate your success and be there to pick you up on the days that seem tough!  Let's be friends!

  1. Hi Azia!

    Good luck with the followfest!

I've been writing professionally for about 3 years now but still consider myself a newbie...;~)

If you get a chance, you might want to check out my blog's WRITERLY WISDOM WEDNESDAYS where guest authors, agents, and illustrators chat about everything to do with the writing and publishing industry.

    Take care,

  5. Hi Azia, I'm in! I'm looking for the same community you are, and I'm so glad to meet you. And for the record, I think lots of different genres and stories are "strong", whether or not they're dark, serious, or "literary" (whatever that is) :)

    1. It is great to hear that! I think I was afraid if something was light/humorous that it wasn't good. Silly, silly, silly!

  13. Great to meet you, Azia. I like to work humor into the midst of tough-circumstance stories, so I guess I bridge the two worlds.

  16. I know what you mean about writing being both fun and draining. I love it to bits, but it can take a chunk out of me.

  17. I love laughing when writing, too.

And I always forget I have a Tumblr page (or whatever they're called). Obviously I spend a lot of time on that site.

    Happy writing!

    1. You must REALLY love Tumblr. A lot of people stopped using it after they got rid of porn. I was actually quite happy-- I could type in things like I LOVE PINK and not know too much about women.

  25. It is funny to be so affected by your own writing, whether it's by laughing, crying or becoming otherwise emotional. :) Glad you've found your writing niche. I like writing dark stories, but haven't yet been too affected by them... oh yes, I was at a few points in the plot.

It's nice to meet you in this follow fest, and I've gladly followed where I could. Writer’s Mark

  27. Made friend requests on FB and GR. Nice to meet you. Where did a name like Azia come from? It could be a character in a fantasy book.

  28. I definitely think it's better to write what feels most comfortable and what you're compelled to write, rather than what you think will make a more meaningful book or whatever. :)
